Welcome to Balaji Horizon Women’s Hospital

The quality of the egg is a significant contributor to infertility in women. The availability, quality, and number of these eggs impact the viability of the pregnancy and the quality of the embryos. Reduced ovarian reserve causes poor egg quality, which is a typical problem in women over 35. Although it is a significant issue, it is never taken into account until the woman is about to become pregnant or is having difficulty. When they learn, the majority of women want to attempt a natural cure or home remedy first. Here are some natural methods for enhancing egg quality for IVF and pregnancy.

Why does Egg Quality become Important?

Egg quality is crucial after fertilisation with sperm because it helps the embryo develop into a robust being. The likelihood of the embryo implanting in the uterus is higher when using high-quality eggs. Simply put, higher-quality eggs produce higher-quality embryos, which lead to healthy pregnancies. A high-quality, healthy egg should have the necessary number of chromosomes and the capacity to fuse with the sperm.

The egg may not be able to survive if it lacks the energy necessary to divide after fertilisation.

Measuring the Quality of Eggs

Though there is no test to check the exact quality of eggs, various factors give a good picture of the health of your egg. It includes:

  • Age: As a woman ages, the eggs become weak and can result in miscarriage or infertility. The Mid to late 30s is the time when the quantity and quality of eggs decline rapidly.
  • Hormone levels: An AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) test can help determine the eggs there are on reserve. Women with PCOS have a high quantity of poor-quality eggs.
  • FSH: An estradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH can indicate the quality of eggs.
  • Antral follicle count: It shows the number of follicles present on the ovaries. Each of these may mature and release eggs which result in pregnancy.

How to Improve Egg Quality?

Here are a few ways to improve your egg quality for IVF or conception.

  • Boost blood flow: To produce healthy eggs, the ovaries must receive oxygenated blood. It is crucial to maintain hydration in order to boost the flow of oxygenated blood to these organs. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water or other liquids per day. Exercise is crucial because it improves circulation throughout the body and boosts blood flow to the heart. Blood flow can also be helped by yoga or massage therapy.
  • Consume a healthy diet: One strategy to have high-quality eggs is to be in good general health. It is affected by what you eat and drink. According to research, nutrient-rich diets including fruits, vegetables, and other foods aid to increase fertility. Make sure your diet is full of nutritious foods, and stay away from processed and sugary foods that are high in saturated fats.Limit your alcohol and caffeine intake because they can have an impact on your fertility. In addition to eating well, it’s a good idea to take vitamins that promote egg production. The quality of eggs is also improved by melatonin, vitamins A and E, and fish oil.
  • Do not smoke: Women who are trying to conceive or who are undergoing IVF should avoid smoking. Smoking hastens the loss of eggs in the ovaries. Furthermore, the harmful chemicals in these cigarettes alter the DNA in the egg cells, rendering them unviable for conception. Women have fewer eggs as they age, so it is best to keep healthy eggs away from harmful chemicals.
  • Manage stress: Stress can increase prolactin and cortisol levels, which can impair egg production and halt/interfere with ovulation. Include stress-relieving activities such as exercise, yoga, meditation, and anything else that helps you stay calm.
  • Maintain a healthy weight: Obesity is a common cause of infertility and decreased egg quality. Obesity can cause hormonal imbalances as well as ovulation disruption. Maintain a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9, which is the recommended weight for a healthy pregnancy.

While there is no magic wand that can improve egg quality for a successful pregnancy, certain dietary and lifestyle changes can promote healthy egg development.

Take control of your fertility journey by maintaining a healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise.
