This cancer originates in the lining of the uterus (endometrium). It is one of the most common gynecologic cancers. Typically, endometrial cancer develops in postmenopausal women, but it can also affect younger women. The primary symptom is abnormal vaginal bleeding, especially after menopause. Other symptoms may include pelvic pain and discomfort. Early detection and treatment are crucial for favorable outcomes.
Depending on the stage and individual circumstances, treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or a combination.
As the name suggests, this cancer develops in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. Often, it is caused by persistent infection with certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). For early detection and prevention, regular Pap tests and HPV screenings are essential. There are mostly no symptoms in the early stages, but as it progresses, symptoms like abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, pain during sexual intercourse, and unusual vaginal discharge may occur. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, depending on the stage and type of cancer. Also, there are HPV vaccines to prevent certain virus strains that can lead to cervical cancer.
