Introduction:
Live surgeries are a good way for doctors to learn from each other. They give doctors a chance to watch real surgeries, ask questions, and get better at their work. I was lucky to be part of this kind of event organized by the Baroda Obstetrics & Gynecology Society (BOGS). On May 25th, 2025, I did a live laparoscopic myomectomy at Isha Hospital in Baroda to remove fibroids from the uterus. The event focused on helping women with fertility issues caused by fibroids. It was a very valuable learning experience for all involved.
Personal Reflection and Gratitude:
Performing live surgery is both an exciting and humbling experience. I am truly grateful to Dr. Divyesh Shukla for trusting me and giving me this opportunity. His guidance and support made the entire process smooth and rewarding. I also want to sincerely thank the entire team at Isha Hospital for their warm hospitality and excellent coordination, which created the perfect environment for this educational event.
Details of the Event:
The live surgical session took place on May 25th, 2025, at Isha Hospital in Baroda, as part of the BOGS CME focused on fibroids and fertility. The event brought together leading gynecologists, surgeons, and healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing womenβs reproductive health. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a shared commitment to improving surgical outcomes.
Performing a laparoscopic myomectomy in front of a live audience is a responsibility I hold with great respect. It requires not only precise surgical skill but also clear, real-time communication to help viewers understand each step of the procedure. The goal was to demonstrate a safe, effective and minimally invasive way to remove fibroids, techniques that can significantly improve fertility prospects for many women.
The Surgical Procedure:
In the live session, I did a laparoscopic myomectomy, focusing on important parts like removing the fibroid carefully, stopping any bleeding and stitching the uterus properly so it heals well. The audience was very interested and asked good questions, which made the session more meaningful. It was a great feeling to share my experience and see the curiosity from other doctors.
Acknowledgments:Β
This successful event wouldnβt have happened without the hard work of many people. I sincerely thank the entire team at Isha Hospital for their support and professionalism. A special thank you to Dr. Divyesh Shukla, sir, for his guidance and leadership in organizing this program. Thanks also to the BOGS team for their careful planning and smooth execution, which made the CME a great success.
Reflections and Future Outlook:
Being part of live surgical demonstrations is a valuable experience that helps us grow professionally and build connections with other doctors. These events improve our skills and encourage us to keep providing better care for patients. I look forward to more chances to share knowledge, learn from others, and help advance gynecological surgery.
Conclusion:
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to perform live surgery on such a prestigious platform as the BOGS CME. It was an honour to contribute to the educational goals of the event and to connect with fellow professionals dedicated to advancing womenβs health. My sincere thanks to everyone who made this experience memorable and rewarding. Together, we can continue to raise the standards of minimally invasive gynecological surgery and work toward even better outcomes for our patients.
FIGO classification, when fibroids actually need treatment, the four decisions in care, surgery options including hysteroscopic and laparoscopic myomectomy. Aligned with ACOG, FIGO, ESGE/AAGL.
Removal of fibroids through small abdominal incisions using a camera and slim instruments. Preserves the uterus, fertility-friendly, and allows much faster recovery than open surgery.
How are submucous fibroids removed?
Hysteroscopically β through the cervix without abdominal incisions. Day-surgery procedure with rapid recovery.
Is laparoscopic myomectomy safe?
In experienced hands, very safe. Complication rates are lower than open surgery for most fibroid presentations. Surgeon experience and case volume strongly influence outcomes.
Can large fibroids be removed laparoscopically?
Yes, in expert hands. Even fibroids over 10 cm are routinely managed laparoscopically. Very large or numerous fibroids may occasionally need open surgery.
How long is the recovery after laparoscopic myomectomy?
Home next day for most. Office work in 1β2 weeks. Full activity in 4β6 weeks. Pregnancy advised after 6β12 months depending on uterine repair.
Are there risks specific to morcellation?
Inadvertent dissemination of unsuspected malignancy is the main concern. Contained morcellation in a specimen bag eliminates most of this risk. Careful patient selection excludes suspicious lesions.
Should I consider UAE instead of surgery?
UAE is a reasonable option for selected non-fertility-seeking patients. For fertility-seeking patients, surgical myomectomy is generally preferred.
Will my fibroids come back?
New fibroids can develop after myomectomy in 10β25% of cases over 5 years. Recurrence is more likely with younger age at surgery and multiple fibroids at original surgery.
