Balaji Horizon Women's Hospital

Laparoscopic Gynaecology Procedures

Advanced laparoscopic gynaecology is precision surgery β€” and precision matters most where the disease is complex. Modern minimally invasive surgery has replaced laparotomy for most gynaecological indications. The advantages β€” smaller scars, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery β€” are well documented. But the harder argument is precision: 3D laparoscopic visualisation in experienced hands allows dissection of deep anatomy that open surgery struggles to access cleanly. Procedure selection, surgical technique, and the team’s experience with the specific operation all matter more than the broad label “laparoscopic”.

Our approach to laparoscopic surgery

The Balaji Horizon laparoscopic programme is led by Dr. Priyadatt Patel β€” Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon, with focused experience in endometriosis excision, fibroid surgery, total laparoscopic hysterectomy, ovarian preservation, and adnexal surgery. We use 3D laparoscopy (Karl Storz IMAGE1 S) for cases where depth perception in deep pelvic dissection matters most. Procedure indications are conservative β€” we operate when surgery is clearly the right answer, not as a default.

Myomectomy

Laparoscopic myomectomy preserves the uterus while removing fibroids. Indications include fibroids causing significant symptoms or affecting fertility. Technique matters β€” careful suturing of the myometrium, attention to haemostasis, and avoidance of unnecessary tissue damage all affect future pregnancy outcomes.

Hysterectomy (TLH)

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is the modern alternative to abdominal hysterectomy for most indications. Decision-making is shared β€” the patient understands her options, the surgeon explains why TLH is or isn’t the right approach for her, and the operation is planned with detail.

Cystectomy + adnexal surgery

Laparoscopic cystectomy preserves the ovary while removing the cyst. For endometriomas in particular, ovarian-tissue-sparing technique is critical to preserve fertility. Adnexal surgery covers a wide range of indications β€” each with its own surgical plan.

Adhesiolysis, salpingectomy, hysteroscopy

Adhesiolysis (releasing pelvic adhesions), salpingectomy (removal of a damaged tube), and hysteroscopy (uterine cavity assessment + treatment) round out the laparoscopic procedural suite.

Where this fits

Laparoscopic surgery often follows from endometriosis, fibroids, or general gynaecological conditions. The technology that powers the precision is detailed under technology; what to expect after surgery is under recovery.

Laparoscopic gynaecological surgery β€” minimally invasive, maximally considered

Laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) treats many gynaecological conditions through small incisions, with less pain and faster recovery than open surgery. This section covers the individual procedures β€” from hysteroscopy and myomectomy to endometriosis excision and hysterectomy.

When surgery is the right answer

Our guiding principle is to operate only when clearly indicated, choosing the least intervention that solves the problem, respecting tissue planes, and preserving ovarian reserve and fertility wherever possible. For many conditions, medical management or watchful waiting comes first.

Each procedure page sets out the indications, what it involves, the risks, recovery, and the alternatives β€” so you can understand not just how an operation is done, but whether it is the right step for you.

Frequently asked questions

Which laparoscopic procedure will I need?
The right procedure depends on your diagnosis, symptoms, age and fertility goals β€” not a fixed rule. After imaging and assessment, the operation (for example myomectomy, cystectomy, hysteroscopy, adhesiolysis or hysterectomy) is matched to your situation. Often, no surgery is needed at all.
Is laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery better than open surgery?
For suitable cases it usually means less pain, smaller incisions, lower infection risk, less blood loss and a faster recovery. It is not right for every situation, and a planned conversion to open surgery is treated as a safety decision, never a failure.
How do I know whether I really need an operation?
Many gynaecological conditions are managed without surgery first. We operate only when there is a clear indication, and will say plainly when watchful waiting or medical management is the better path.
Will laparoscopic surgery affect my fertility?
Our approach prioritises fertility preservation wherever it matters β€” ovary-sparing cystectomy, uterus-sparing myomectomy and careful tissue handling. Your fertility goals are part of the plan from the start.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients go home within 24–48 hours and resume light activity within 1–2 weeks, with fuller recovery over about 4–6 weeks depending on the procedure performed.
