Can PCOS be cured?
PCOS is a long-term condition. It cannot be cured, but it can be managed well. Symptoms often improve with lifestyle measures and targeted medication, and periodic checks for long-term metabolic risk are part of good care.
Will I be able to conceive with PCOS?
Most women with PCOS can conceive, although it may take longer and some need treatment. Letrozole is the first-line medicine to help ovulation, and further options such as gonadotrophins or IVF are available if needed. Your own chance depends on your age, other fertility factors and your partner’s semen analysis.
Does PCOS increase cancer risk?
PCOS is associated with a higher risk of endometrial (womb-lining) cancer, mainly when periods are infrequent for long spells, because the lining is then exposed to oestrogen without progesterone. Having a withdrawal bleed at least every three to four months, or using a treatment that protects the lining, lowers this risk. Any irregular or prolonged bleeding should be checked.
