A normal (vaginal) birth is supported at Balaji Horizon wherever it is safe for mother and baby. Most healthy pregnancies can aim for vaginal birth — with mobility, monitoring and effective pain relief available — though it cannot be promised in advance, and the plan adapts if labour or the baby’s wellbeing changes.

What normal delivery involves

Labour progresses through the opening of the cervix, the birth of the baby, and delivery of the placenta. We monitor you and your baby throughout, encourage upright positions and movement where possible, and keep you informed at each stage. Pain relief, including epidural analgesia, is available if you want it.

Who it suits

Vaginal birth is appropriate for most uncomplicated pregnancies, and for many women with risk factors after individual assessment. Some situations make a planned caesarean safer; we discuss this honestly in advance.

When the plan changes

Sometimes an assisted birth or an emergency caesarean becomes the safer option during labour — for example if labour does not progress or the baby shows signs of distress. If that happens, we explain what is recommended and why, and act promptly.

Recovery

Recovery after an uncomplicated vaginal birth is usually quicker than after surgery, with most women mobile within hours. We provide postnatal review, pain relief and feeding support — see postnatal care.

Frequently asked questions

How long does labour usually last?
It varies widely, especially between first and later births; first labours are often longer. We monitor progress rather than imposing a fixed clock, and intervene only if there is a clear reason.
Can I have an epidural and still have a normal delivery?
Yes. An epidural provides pain relief during labour and does not, on current evidence, increase the overall chance of a caesarean, though it may slightly lengthen the pushing stage.
What if labour does not progress?
We assess the cause and options, which may include support to strengthen contractions or, if needed for safety, an assisted birth or caesarean. The decision is explained to you at the time.
